An issue with a small number of Apple Watch Series 6 models may cause their screen to go permanently blank. The good news is that Apple now says you can get it fixed for free.

The software According to Apple, the problem affects only 40mm models of the Series 6 produced between April and September 2021. If you’ve been having trouble with your Watch and live in North America or Europe, you may get it fixed for free by contacting Apple or an Apple-authorized service

You’ll need to know your device’s serial number to verify eligibility. If your Series 6 display is blank, it’s best to check the Watch app on your phone. Then go to the My Watch tab, choose General, and scroll down to About. After that, go to apple.com and fill out the form there.

This Only Affects 40MM Models of the Series 6

If the device won’t turn on, there are a few ways to get it serviced. You can either take it to an Apple Store or contact an authorized third-party repair shop immediately. If you’d rather mail in the product for repair, you may also reach out to Apple Support.

There’s also some fine print, as always. The repair will not extend the device’s standard warranty. While support is available worldwide, if the problem occurs while you’re traveling, you may have to wait to have the issue fixed in the country or region where you purchased it. If you bought your Series 6 new and it has any damage that might “dampen the service,” you could be charged more for repairs. There’s also a time limit for the program. Apple states that eligible Series 6 models will be covered for two years after their original retail sale — something to think about if you obtained it.

Apple is now offering a free fix for the small number of Apple Watch Series 6 models with blanked-out screens.

If you’re among the unlucky few, you can visit an Apple Store or authorized third-party repair shop to have your device repaired at no extra cost. You may also contact Apple Support by phone or mail if you’d prefer to have it repaired remotely.

If you bought your Series 6 new, the repair will not extend its standard warranty. However, support is available worldwide and eligible models will be covered for two years after their original retail sale.

There are some caveats to keep in mind: The repair won’t extend your device’s warranty, damage may result in a higher repair fee, and you may have to wait if you’re traveling outside of the country where you purchased it.

Still, it’s good to know that Apple is standing by its products and offering a free fix for those affected by this issue.
