R is a surprisingly uncommon starting letter. Despite ranking third overall in Wordle, it’s merely the 11th most likely to begin an answer.

Does today’s Wordle have any repeated letters?
• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

What letter does today’s Wordle end with?
• The last letter in today’s Wordle is E.
E is the most common letter to end a Wordle answer by far. That’s one of the reasons why many of the best start words, including SLATE, CRANE, CRATE and STARE, all end with one.

Today’s Wordle answer (game #811)
Today’s Wordle answer (game #811) is… ROUSE.
We’re in easier territory today after a couple of tougher Wordles. ROUSE has no particular complications, unless you count the fact that it begins with the relatively uncommon letter R (11th most likely starter) or that it contains an S that isn’t the first letter. WordleBot says it has an average score of just 3.7, and that feels about right.
The three vowels probably make it easier for many players, too – particularly those of you who, like me, started with STARE. This is my favorite of the best Wordle starting words and I’ve been using it almost continually since I began playing this maddeningly addictive game more than 600 Wordles ago. WordleBot doesn’t rate it as the absolute best (that would be SLATE), but it works for me.
Anyway, today STARE left just 12 possible solutions, which was better than any of the other top 20. I didn’t know there were 12, but that was also the number that I came up with – and I figured odds of 12-1 weren’t good enough for me to risk an outright guess on my second go.
Instead, I left out all three of the letters I’d uncovered, playing POUCH instead; I knew the E was at the end, and was confident that the S would go directly before it, given that all of my answers had that format (VERSE and WORSE and PROSE and REUSE and NURSE and PURSE etc).
I was right: the O and U turned green in the center of the word, which meant the R and S had to be either side of it. Which meant the answer had to be ROUSE and I scored a simple 3/6.

Yesterday’s Wordle hints (game #810)

- The last letter in yesterday’s Wordle was L.

Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #810)
Yesterday’s Wordle answer (game #811) was… DWELL.
We’ve had a lot of repeated letters lately in Wordle; none the previous couple of days, but four out of the past six overall. Today’s repeated letter – L – is the third most likely to appear twice in an answer (behind E and O) but the equal most likely to be doubled up, as in LL.
Uncovering both Ls may therefore have been easier than finding some doubles, but against that DWELL also includes a W, AKA the sixth least likely letter in the game.
All of that adds up to an answer that has an average score of 4.2, according to WordleBot – so lower than yesterday’s GNASH (4.3, see below) but still on the harder side of things.
To make matters worse, hardly any of the best Wordle starting words were any real help. Of the top 20 options, according to WordleBot, only one cut down the possible solutions to below 90. That was STALE, with 14, but most were above 100. Ouch!
My choice, STARE, was one of those that fared badly, giving me a single yellow E and leaving 249 possible solutions. Fortunately, I was back on form with my second guess, the usually reliable BLEND. This confirmed the E in position #3 and added a D and L into the mix. Incredibly, it also cut my options from 249 to just one!
It took me ages to find it, admittedly; I got stuck trying to find words that started with a vowel then a D, such as IDEAL (which couldn’t be the answer as the A had been ruled out), or IDYLL, which would have worked but for the fact that it didn’t include an E. Eventually, I realized that DW was a possible starting combination and DWELL followed swiftly afterwards for a 3/6.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS / Android), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
