The foldable phone wars are heating up, as new and old players alike throw their hats into the ring in 2023. OnePlus has now joined this party with the OnePlus Open, the first OnePlus foldable.

The OnePlus Open is priced competitively against other foldables, and the device comes with impressive flagship smartphone hardware, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a trio of high-resolution cameras on its back, and an extremely bright screen.

We’ve already completed a full OnePlus Open review, but for a look at the specs and features, read on.

OnePlus foldable: price & availability

The OnePlus Open was announced on October 19, 2023, and it costs $1,699 / £1,599, with no plans for an Australian launch.

That makes it significantly cheaper than key rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold.

Pre-orders for the phone open on October 20, and it ships on 26.

The OnePlus Open is a large, book-style foldable phone which you can get in Emerald Dusk (green) and Voyager Black shades. If you choose the black, it will have a vegan leather rear, while the green version has a glass back.

As foldable phones go this is incredibly slim, coming in at just 5.8mm thick (at least for the Emerald Dusk version) when open, and 11.7mm thick when closed. The latter is thicker than most conventional smartphones, but slimmer than any other widely available foldable phone.

This has a 7.82-inch 2268 x 2440 foldable screen and a 6.31-inch 1116 x 2484 cover display, with both screens having a 120Hz refresh rate. Impressively, it also has a peak brightness of 2,800 nits on both screens, which is almost double the Pixel Fold’s brightness.

The OnePlus Open has a triple lens camera on the back, with a 48MP f/1.7 primary camera, a 48MP f/2.2 ultra-wide shooter, and a 64MP f/2.6 telephoto camera, capable of 3x optical zoom and 6x ‘in sensor’ zoom.

The phone also has a 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera on the foldable screen, and a 32MP f/2.4 one on the cover display. Video recording tops out at 4K quality at 60fps.

As for the battery, that’s 4,805mAh and supports speedy 67W charging, but there’s no wireless charging.

The OnePlus Open has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, just like you’ll find in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. That’s the best chipset currently available to Android phones, and there’s also 16GB of RAM, which is about the most you can hope for outside a few of the best gaming phones.

The OnePlus Open also comes with 512GB of storage. Oddly, that’s the only configuration that’s currently available.

Beyond that, the OnePlus Open has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Face Unlock, a physical alert slider so you can easily mute it, and spatial audio, powered by Dolby Atmos.

For software, you’re getting Android 13, with the company’s custom OxygenOS 13.2 overlay, including some features designed specifically for this phone, like gestures that let you instantly split the screen between two apps.
